Director Bart Lee (Bart Lee Theatre) and producers Niki Robinson & Stephen Harrison (Artemis Studios) return to Windsor for our annual theatre festival this summer!

About the Globe

The Windsor Globe is an annual outdoor festival of theatre, music and comedy. Each year we build a temporary theatre structure, to provide all the facilities of a permanent theatre, but in an outdoor environment.

The festival is produced by professionals theatre practicioners, who are supported by a large community team of actors, technicians and other volunteers.

Set in the beautiful grounds of the Alexandra Gardens, in view of the castle, river and Eton Bridge. A truly inspirational setting for the tales!

The Windsor Globe was devised in 2008 by Niki Robinson, who shared the idea with creative partners Bart Lee and Stephen Harrison. The trio immediately began plans for the event, working with Windsor and Maidenhead Council to create a truly memorable summer theatrical experience in the historic and romantic setting of Alexandra Gardens.

Bart and Niki both have an excellent track record in Shakespeare festivals, having established the popular South Hill Park event as Freeflow Productions (which Bart owned), building the event up over a 5 year period; both have run many other large regional events and shows. Bart is a talented and recognized writer and director who has had amazing reviews and acclaim nationally for his work. He was also the Artistic Director at The Castle arts centre in Wellingborough. Stephen is an accomplished lighting designer and stage manager, as well as co-owner of Artemis Studios along with Niki (performing arts schools, agency and a production company with its own studios in Bracknell, Berkshire).

The first Windsor Globe was not only a memorable event, but truly a team effort. Members of the cast and crew helped create every panel of the skin of the Globe, working into the night to get the massive outer ring in place. It was such a great spirit and created a strong family feel with the talented cast.

The first production was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, which opened to excellent reviews. The show was subject to press attention - with BBC Radio Berkshire even broadcasting their Breakfast Show with Maggie Philbin from the site as it went up one (very early!) morning.

The Windsor Globe is a truly special event with high production standards, whilst also reaching out to local actors — the aim is to make quality theatre both fun and accessible to residents and visitors.

Getting involved

The producers would encourage everyone who wants to take part to get in touch — as well as cast, volunteers for crew and front of house positions are always truly welcomed!

The Globe team would like to extend their thanks to Windsor and Maidenhead Council for their ongoing generosity and support, and to Arts Council England, who are funding this year’s show through Lottery Funding.
